EZTUNE Software Module

An integral part of the EZTUNETH1 Kit, the EZTUNE software module brings a thoroughly useful and time saving level of automation to the functionality of several TEF programs. It provides a practical set of features for evaluating and fine-tuning a sound system, or analysing a space prior to installation, quickly and easily. Its default settings will suit the majority of projects, but can be modified as necessary. The TEF EZTUNE system represents an ideal route for getting the job done swiftly and accurately.

EZTUNE includes the following facilities, with all functions directly accessible from hot keys to ensure the minimum time-to-result:
  • Set Reference Levels
A large, easy-to-read display shows the C-weighted SPL, with the display changing colour above the desired reference point.
  • Measure Real Time Analysis
A powerful RTA module, with resolutions from 1 to 1/24th octave. Various decay speeds can be selected, including the THX-recommended 20-second averaging for optimum accuracy with pink noise. NC values can be displayed in octave band mode.
  • Measure Reflections
Utilises Time Delay Spectrometry to resolve events down to 26 microseconds. A dedicated Reflections button automatically finds the arrival time of the direct energy, and shows which peaks are due to significant reflections. The graphics show time-of-arrival for each reflection, together with its path length, while an overlay mode makes it easy to analyse when acoustic treatment has successfully absorbed a reflection.
  • Measure Frequency Response
The Frequency Response function automatically identifies the location of the microphone in the room, calculating the frequency response, phase and comb filtering effects caused by specific reflections.
  • Predict Optimal EQ
This automates the TEF Precision Equalization software (PEQ), to offer one of the fastest and easiest ways to measure a sound system and select the optimum EQ settings. It rapidly displays the frequency response, with a list of centre-frequencies for filters, along with Q values and the recommended cut or boost required at each frequency.
  • McSquared Modal Calculator
A powerful room mode calculator, which allows the user to predict the effects of room modes, based on the dimensions of the space in question.
TEFPRO Kit

The TEFPRO Kit is designed for the professional working with all aspects of room acoustics and combines the TEF25 USB preamp with the Sound Lab Real Time Analysis (hyperlink to description below) and Time Delay Spectrometry (hyperlink to description below) software modules. It also incorporates the ancillary hardware, including the TEF04P omnidirectional measurement microphone, plus carry case and cables.

Kit contents:
  • TEF25 USB dual-channel preamplifier
  • TEF04P Microphone - with carry pouch, clip and windshield
  • TEFCS Carry Case - with space for laptop, analyser, cables, etc
  • MKCA20 Audio Cable - 6m of XLR to XLR
  • USB Cable - 2m USB/A to USB/B (USB 2.0)
  • SLUPG1 Software - upgrade to enable use of existing Sound Lab programs
  • SLRTA60 RTA Software - Sound Lab real-time dual-channel spectral analysis software, providing 1, 1/2, 1/3, 1/6 and 1/12-octave displays
  • SLTDS60 TDS Software - Sound Lab Time Delay Spectrometry software for electro-acoustic measurement
SLRTA60 Real Time Analysis Software

The Real Time Analysis (RTA) module provides a measurement of energy against frequency. Typically, it is deployed to evaluate noise, or used in conjunction with Pink Noise to evaluate a sound system's frequency response. SPL can be displayed with various decay rates, and/or time-averaged in A, B or C Weighting.

A dedicated function allows a field evaluation of Sound Transmission Class, and the program also includes noise measurements, such as SPL, NC, PNC, RC and NR. The resolution is user definable from 1 to 1/24th octave, and the display can be shown as Bars or Lines. The RTA module is ideal for measuring events at low frequency - for example, room modes and subwoofer performance in acoustic spaces.

When used in dual channel mode, the RTA software can also provide an evaluation of frequency response direct from the source music, rather than by comparison to Pink Noise.
  • Real Time Analysis of energy against frequency
  • Noise evaluations and frequency response measurements
  • Wide choice of noise measurement protocols
  • User-selectable resolution
  • Enables frequency response evaluation direct from music programme
SLTDS60 Time Delay Spectrometry Software

The Time Delay Spectrometry (TDS) module represents the classic TEF program for measuring Time, Energy and Frequency, and includes the principal room acoustic measurements, such as RT60, Speech Intelligibility and %ALCons.

TDS has a higher signal to noise ratio than any other current measurement method. This allows testing in environments with high ambient noise levels, without the need to run high power levels through the PA. Offering accurate time resolution, TDS is ideal for evaluating phase relationships, aligning arrays and clusters, and evaluating reflections, and can also separate the direct from the reflected energy in a space.

It can also be deployed in the electrical domain, to evaluate a sound system chain before the power amplifiers, and utilises a swept sine wave as its excitation source.
  • Extremely accurate time, energy and frequency measurement
  • Includes prime acoustic measurements - RT60 and Speech Intelligibility
  • Very high signal to noise ratio
  • Evaluates phase, helps with aligning arrays and clusters
