Assistive Hearing Systems

Assistive hearing systems for those with impaired hearing are of two main types; audio frequency induction loops (AFILS) and infrared audio systems. The most common system in use is the induction loop many of which are fitted in churches, public buildings, reception areas and in many other situations and locations. The Disability Discrimination Act:1995 has been a major motivator for organisations to fit loop systems making it a legal responsibility to ensure that those with hearing impairments are not disadvantaged.

Current building regulations also call for assisted hearing systems in public buildings of a certain size and for glazed ticket counters.
