Acoustic Consultancy (Room Acoustics)
RK Sound Engineering offer acoustic consultancy services which includes measurement and analysis of room acoustics in a variety of situations including auditoria, recording studios, churches and houses of worship, schools and many others.
New Build Projects
Many new buildings are intended for use with amplified sound as well as natural acoustics. Our experience is particularly relevant in offering design advice so that the two can integrate in a sympathetic way.
Interaction is often a requirement. Musicians need to hear each other to achieve a memorable performance; responses from the audience need to be understood by the performers.
We have a wide knowledge of available acoustic materials and their properties and we will assist the decision makers (client, architect etc.) in choosing and incorporating the most suitable surfaces into their designs. We want to avoid repeating the acoustic pitfalls of past buildings.
A recent project was Cathedral House, Huddersfield where RK Sound Engineering Ltd. were contracted to advise on the acoustic treatment of the main auditorium.

The treatments we specified were adopted and the outcome is that the acoustic performance is entirely in line with the predicted performance and the musicians and users of the hall are very satisfied with the acoustic characteristics.
Another recently completed project was Champions Church in Dudley, West Midlands. This was a new build church with an 800+ seat auditorium and RK Sound worked with the client and architect to specify interior acoustic treatments aimed at providing the ideal acoustics for worship bands and congregation.
Testimonial from the Pastor:
'I first of all wanted to write to encourage you in the work that you did for us here on the new building.
We recently had a very well travelled Band at the venue, from New Zealand. After the event , their sound guy commented that he had never been to such a brilliantly balanced acoustic building!!!! He admitted that he rarely commented on the acoustics of venues, usually because they were a nightmare, but on this occasion felt that he had to say how brilliant it was. So once again Jon, many thanks for a great job - highly recommended.'
Existing Buildings
Where an existing building has room acoustic problems we take a scientific approach and establish the existing acoustic performance. This requires an acoustic survey to establish the facts. The survey consists of measurement of key acoustic parameters such as reverberation time and background noise as well as physical measurements of the space and assimilation of relevant architectural features that impact on the acoustics.
We then compile a report detailing the facts. This gives everyone a clear basis from which to offer an improved acoustic and a bench mark against which to measure any improvements. We would normally suggest the priorities that need addressing and offer a budgetary cost to any proposed changes. We remain available throughout the subsequent works to offer advice or clarification as required.
Planning Applications (Noise Breakout)
Planning authorities often require an acoustic report in support of a planning application. The report typically focuses on noise breakout and its impact on surrounding properties. RK Sound Engineering are experienced in measuring noise breakout and recommending internal acoustic treatments to minimize noise breakout. Contact us for more information.
We are experienced in setting up noise limiters to control the sound pressure levels in buildings typically halls and pubs/clubs working with the client and the local authority environmental health officers as required. We can also supply a range of noise limiters if required.
